The Cho will Not go on, thanks to HRC

chobird.jpg
Controversial Performer Margaret Cho told no by HRC homos.

I have, finally, had it with the assimilationist fags and Talbot’s lesbians in charge at HRC.

Margaret Cho was going to perform for FREE next week at a gay fundraising event (strangely enough called Unity ’04) in Boston and has been uninvited by HRC because of fears of another “Whoopi” incident.

I’m sure the power homos at HRC can rationalize all they want to about a troubled political climate, the need for a moderate voice, etc. but it seems to me that HRC is moving further away from being a voice for the entire gay community and is, instead, a weak willed, pandering group of political demagogues.

So what’s gonna happen at their fundraiser next week? Maybe there will be fine wines and baked brie? Maybe the WASPy HRC’ers can sit around and laugh about embarrassing incidents in Pilates class or at their child’s soccer practice. Coz if ya look at the HRC propoganda, we're all a buncha Range Rover driving upper middle class honkies who live at Crate and Barrel. Ugh! It is sure to be as dreadful as the event I went to a few months ago.

OH! As I was writing this, I got this response from the National Gay and Lesbian Task Force (who is hosting their national convention in St. Louis this November):

National Gay and Lesbian Task Force Withdraws from LGBT "Unity 2004" Event at Democratic National Convention
Statement by Matt Foreman, Executive Director

"We are dismayed that Margaret Cho has been disinvited to perform at the LGBT Unity 2004 event scheduled for Monday, July 26 in Boston. We had been a co-sponsor of this event.

Throughout her career, Ms. Cho has been a staunch supporter of equal rights for gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender Americans, has contributed her time and talent to dozens of LGBT fundraising events, and is much loved by our community. We were proud to give her a Task Force Leadership Award last year. Ms. Cho has said, 'I'm more than bi(sexual).' She is, indeed, one of us.

Under these circumstances, we must regretfully withdraw our support for this event."

Alright NGLTF! Maybe the Banana Republic fags haven’t taken over the universe!

I contacted M. and her publicist/manager the day I heard about it. I was listening to Air America Radio over the internet and went to Margaret's site and sure enough there was a press release.

I explained, that as an artist, this climate of fear and censorship has me very touchy about issues like this and said this is why I won't be giving any more money to HRC this year and would instead be putting more money into the coffers of the ACLU as I have done for the last 2 years.

I got a nice letter back from her publicist/manager saying she was tired of the state of the world and so was Margaret. I'm sure we'll hear more about this soon on her blog.

I'm so tired of the self censoring bullshit that goes on - and then this from the HRC? C'mon! Well, this long distance dedication goes out to those dykes over there at HRC...

DJ? Can you play that new song off Morrissey's album? You know "All The Lazy Dykes" ? It was written for them.

Fuck me gently with a chainsaw, Heather! What was HRC thinking?

On another note, she'll be at the Blue Note in Columbia this September. Let's go!
